The Estrogenius Festival, one of New York City’s largest women’s arts festival, kicks off its ninth annual season October 1. Running through November 1 at Manhattan Theatre Source (177 MacDougal Street), the festival presents a diverse array of short plays, solo shows, dance, visual art, music, performances by teens and a benefit for girls’ education in Africa.

The ninth annual EstroGenius Festival is anchored by four programs of short plays. Program One includes:
DEAD SOAP by Bekah Brunstetter, directed by Shannon Ward
Starring: Jason Griffith*, Bill Mootos* & Jennifer Nelson
A bright eyed and hopeful new Soap Star gets an eye opener on his first day on the set - on and off screen.
FAG HAG/FRUIT FLY by Montserrat Mendez; directed by Megan Demarest
Starring: James Edward Becton*, Judy W. Chen*, Stacey Raymond*, Eva Rosa, Susan Slotoroff, Thomas Rowen & Yan Xi
When a writer is commissioned to write a play for a festival, her fantastical tale of a girl who unfortunately only dates gay men, is filtered through with the tragic details of her last relationship. When is fiction, more fiction than fiction?

TUMBLE JUMBLE by Andrea Lepcio, directed by Dina Epshteyn
Starring: Lyndsay Becker*, Jaron Farnham, Amanda Hilson, Erin Krakow & Clancy O’Connor
Five twenty-somethings grapple with the mystery that killed their town.
CHILD OF THE MOVEMENT by Cheryl Davis, directed by Sarah Marina Ali
Starring: Ashley Murray & Tom Southern
In 1950s Alabama, a young African American woman is ready to challenge the status quo, but will she become the "child of the movement"?
WHAT MOMMY TOLD ME by Paula Caplan, directed by Heather Lanza
Starring: Laurence Cantor, Clara Hendler, Lara Stoby & Anna Wood
A child becomes collateral damage in a bitter divorce battle.
