This course is especially designed for students about to enter Years 8, 9, 10, or 11 (possibly even Year 12) who wish to develop their essay writing skills through writing about some interesting pop/cult films and concepts. They may procrastinate when it comes to writing essays or they feel that the task of writing essays is very difficult for them. Students workshop essay writing skills based on the viewing of three violent films - the 1975 film Rollerball, the 1987 film Running Man and the 2008 film Death Race. Our current interest in reality TV and winning and losing in every aspect of life is considered. Sport is about winning and losing in the most obvious way, and all films exaggerate the repercussion of winning and losing to create the ultimate reality TV experience. Reference will be made to works of literature and painting. The course develops an essential skill in an unexpectedly enjoyable and interesting way unlike so many essay-writing courses. This course is suitable for students in Years 7 to 12. Details of this event may be subject to change. Please visit http://cce.sydney.edu.au/course/ewme for more information or to register.
