Opening reception: Thursday, September 15 | 6-9pm

For her first major solo exhibition in the United States, Los Angeles-based artist Erlea Maneros Zabala re-photographs archival and journalistic images to disrupt the logic and order of pictorial space. Through a process of extensive research, Maneros Zabala’s practice restages visual information to unearth narratives that have gone otherwise overlooked through time. Expanding upon a series of recent projects that examine the increased circulation and proliferation of images throughout forms of print and digital media, Maneros Zabala presents an installation of new sculptures and photographic objects that considers the conditions under which pictures are viewed and experienced. Her new exhibition at REDCAT focuses on a selection of discrete images extracted from local photo-study collections to reveal how a picture’s context determines its meaning and expose the material processes by which documentary photography conveys information.
