Erasure formed in 1985 out of the departure of founding Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke (who was then one half of Yaz opposite Alison Moyet) and singer Andy Bell. Like Yaz and Depeche Mode, Erasure were a synth-based group, but they had stronger dance inclinations, as well as a sharper, more accessible sense of pop songcraft. Among the duo's hit singles are 'Oh l'amour,' 'Chains of Love,' 'Blue Savannah,' 'Stop!,' 'Love to Hate You' and their cover of ABBA's ''Take a Chance on Me.' The duo's latest release, 'Union Street,' is their first acoustic recording, marking a radical departure from their past work.
