The Eos Ensemble is proud to present Internationally Acclaimed Mezzo-Soprano Daniela Mack on this program featuring music for voice and string quartet. Respighi's "Il Tramonto" sets a beautiful poem by Shelley to luminous string writing. Ms. Mack will also perform two arias from the opera Xerxes by Handel, which will be presented by San Francisco Opera this fall. The popular "Ombra mai fu" speaks of tender love, while "Se bramate d'amar" evokes feelings of deception and jealousy. The evening opens with Hugo Wolf's witty and sarcastic "Italian Serenade" and concludes with Dvorak's wildly popular "American String Quartet," thought to be influenced by African spirituals and Native American drumming.
