ARCHITECTURE SPEAKER SERIES: Achieving Design Excellence for Arlington

What makes great architecture? How do we reconcile demands for ever-more-secure commercial buildings with elements of fine design? How do we create buildings that are both aesthetically appealing and environmentally sustainable?

Arlington County is opening a dialogue on these questions by sponsoring the Architecture Speaker Series in Arlington. The series of discussions with renowned architects will explore the elements of fine architectural design and discuss ways to elevate the quality of commercial, public and residential architecture in Arlington.
Internationally recognized architect Enrique Norten will kick off the series on October 27 at the Rosslyn Spectrum Theater, at 7:00 p.m. Norten, founder and principal of the firm TEN Arquitectos, will discuss his recent work, focusing on the achievement of innovative design solutions through architectural design excellence.

Presentations will all be free and open to the public. Other presentations in the series will focus on sub-areas of architecture that are particularly relevant to Arlington. On a bi-monthly schedule, well-known architects will discuss Security Design, Universal Design and Sustainable Design. The next presentation, on Excellent Architectural Design for Building Security, is planned for January, 2007.
