Many ethics training sessions and modules provide an overview of codes of ethics or standards of ethical conduct with guidelines on how to apply them in different situations. This session takes a different approach to ethics and “being ethical.” It offers an approach to resolving ethical problems in which it is not at all clear what the solution is, what the choices are, or even what standards apply. It assumes that an engineer’s most important asset in resolving an ethical problem is the ability to think creatively about the problem and to generate options.
