Ellen Bass: Poetry Workshop, Inc Opera Plaza March 29, 2009

Poetry is rooted in metaphor, in which we see the similarity, the oneness, in disparate things. In this workshop, we'll discuss the use of metaphor in poetry -- how it works to enact emotional authenticity and create a bond between the poet and the reader. We'll look at sample poems to see how metaphor works and I'll provide practical advice for writing more vivid metaphors. We'll do a writing exercise using metaphor and we'll have a chance to share our writing.
