Einstein on the Beach, an Opera in Four Acts September 20, 2012

BAM's 30th Next Wave Festival will present 'Einstein on the Beach, An Opera in Four Acts,' the landmark Robert Wilson-Philip Glass collaboration, choreographed by Lucinda Childs. Non-narrative in form, the work uses a series of powerful recurring images as its main dramatic device, shown in juxtaposition with abstract dance sequences created by Childs. First premiered in 1976, the work was revived at BAM in 1984 and 1992. The production features a 12-member chorus and the Lucinda Childs Dance Company, in addition to the Phillip Glass Ensemble, directed by Michael Riesman.
