The Grammy Award-winning, Chicago-based eighth blackbird returns to the MCA Stage with a two-part concert series, 'PowerFUL/LESS,' that presents the cases for and against Igor Stravinsky's controversial claim that "music is, by its very nature, essentially powerless to express anything at all." The first concert, 'PowerFUL,' features passionate and politically charged works by American composers Frederic Rzewski, John Corigliano, and John Luther Adams. The second concert, 'PowerLESS,' features music by the American composer Steve Reich along with a special transcription of J.S. Bach. The performances are also part of the new Composers Stage series that highlights the MCA Stage's continued support of the burgeoning new and experimental music scene.
