In 1990, film director Tim Burton created a character that touched the hearts of millions. Now, through the magic of Matthew Bourne, Edward Scissorhands is back to make your spirits soar.

This funny, heart-warming fairytale for the whole family tells the story of a boy created by an eccentric inventor who, upon his sudden death, leaves him with scissors instead of hands. Invited into a brightly coloured American suburbia by a friendly family, Edward quickly becomes the local hero – transforming tired gardens into triumphs of topiary, treating desperate housewives to haircuts with a difference, and shaping spectacular ice sculptures out of snowstorms. But not everyone can see past the scars and scissors to see the beauty and innocence within…

Edward Scissorhands is breathtakingly adapted for the stage by maverick director and choreographer Matthew Bourne, whose multi-award winning dance theatre productions have dazzled audiences the world over. This production premieres in Australia after an extensive UK and US tour.

Using an artistic trademark that runs through much of his work – including the revolutionary Swan Lake that hit Sydney last year – Bourne uses music and movement alone to tell the story. The effect on audiences is mesmerising; as is Danny Elfman’s achingly romantic score from the film, performed live.

Packed full of surprises, this truly spectacular production turns a cinematic masterpiece into a theatrical tour-de-force. If you loved the film, or if you are a fan of Matthew Bourne’s fantastical stage creations – this show is a must.

But most of all, Edward Scissorhands is a treat for all those, young and old, who have yet to be told the story of the boy who just wanted to reach out and touch people, but couldn’t.

A gothic fairytale.
A moving love story.
An uplifting stage spectacular for family and friends.
