Louis Massiah will speak about community history projects underway at Scribe Video Center, and will show excerpts from recent video portraits he is working on. Massiah is the founder and executive director of Scribe, a media arts organization that provides low-cost workshops and equipment access to emerging video/filmmakers and community organizations. At Scribe he has facilitated and executive produced over 200 documentaries, documenting major issues and concerns facing urban communities. A current project, the Precious Places Community History Project, is a citywide oral history portrait designed by Massiah that is composed of short documentaries produced with neighborhood organizations in Philadelphia and throughout the region.
