San Mateo, California

Not quite two years ago, looking at a new President-elect and a reeling economy, Peace Action of San Mateo County hosted economist Jack Rasmus, Ph.D. to talk about what the next President needed to do to have a chance to get us out. Dr. Rasmus has updated and collated his outlook on the economy's past, present and what he hopes will be its future into a new book, "Epic Recession: Prelude to Global Depression".

Dr. Rasmus will discuss the book and the economy as he sees it, in a talk entitled "Why Economic Recovery Has Not Really Begun - Scenarios for Post-November Elections". He will give an update of events, policies and data that have set in since the book's release last spring. The focus will be on why jobs have not improved, why housing is getting worse again, and why GDP is slowing globally since then...all of which the book had predicted.

"Epic Recession: Prelude to Global Depression" reveals the deep origins of the current economic crisis, explains why President Obama's current policies have failed, and offers an alternative, comprehensive 28-point program for recovery. Dr. Rasmus compares and contrasts this recession with "epic recessions" of the 20th Century. He has developed a new theory, which departs from mainstream economic analysis, of its causes and evolution. Dr. Rasmus will present arguments about the need for a basic restructuring of the U.S. economy through, among other things, a massive job creation program, nationalizing residential housing and consumer credit markets, a restructuring of the tax system, and measures that restore a long-term redistribution of income.

Dr. Rasmus is a political economist and author of several books on the U.S. economy. His works include "The War at Home," and "The Trillion Dollar Income Shift - Essays on Income Inequality in America". He is also a freelance journalist focusing on U.S. economic and domestic policy topics; his work appears often in Z Magazine.
