Environmental Charter High School (ECHS), a public charter high school, is hosting its yearly Earth Day Carnival on its green campus Friday, April 24, 2009, from 9am to 12pm. At our yearly carnival, Environmental Charter High School students become the teachers.
The celebration will include student-created, hands-on, standards-based lessons on topics including:| Water Conservation Tree Planting Organic and Local Food Biofuels Green Building Toxic-Free Living
There will be performances, plays, booths, and a carnival of green fun hosted by the 9th and 11th graders. The 10th grade Green Ambassadors will lead 3 workshops (water conservation, composting, and food production for the middle and high school aged students. ECHS will also have a teacher resource area specifically for teachers interested in implementing an environmental curriculum.
Donations and financial support from the community, including partners like State Farm insurance, as well as parents, staff, and community leaders, have made this event possible.
Our school is becoming the green model of the community and our students are the heroes and ambassadors of green solutions, said Sara Laimon, Director of Green Ambassadors Program. We look forward to working with all of our local elementary schools and our community members to make a difference.
The event will take place at the campus, located at 16315 Grevillea Avenue in Lawndale. We believe that Environmental Charter High School is constantly given opportunities to live up to its mission of creating lifelong learners and students who are scholars and environmental stewards, said Alison Suffet-Diaz, Founder of ECHS.
