EAF 10: 2010 EMERGING ARTIST FELLOWSHIP EXHIBITION
September 12, 2010 - March 6, 2011
Opening Sunday, September 12, 2 PM - 6 PM (rain or shine)

Socrates Sculpture Park is pleased to announce the opening of EAF10: 2010 Emerging Artist Fellowship Exhibition on Sunday, September 12, 2010 (2-6pm), featuring new works by the Park’s current resident
artists. This year, Socrates awarded fellowships to: Gavin Anderson, Scott Andresen, Rachel Beach, Trenton Duerksen, Jonathan Durham, Daniele Frazier, Frank Haines, Jonggeon Lee, MaryKate Maher, Christopher Manzione, Clive Murphy, Jess Perlitz, Lina Puerta, Jory Rabinovitz, David M. Scanavino, Lior Shvil, Ruby Sky Stiler and Jason Villegas.

This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the Emerging Artist Fellowship Exhibitions—ten years from when the EAF Program was visually re-branded and its resident artists were first distinguished in their own annual show (the program, itself, was established in 1996 as an extension of the Park’s Outdoor Studio Program). From its inception, the EAF Program has supported 170 artists. Fellowship artists are awarded a grant and a residency in the Park’s outdoor studio and
are also provided with technical support and access to tools, materials and equipment to facilitate the production of new sculptures for exhibition in the Park. The artists develop their projects throughout the summer in the open studio and on site in the landscape, offering visitors the opportunity to experience the creation of the works that
are then installed in the Park. Representing a broad range of materials, working methods and subject matter, the diverse sculptural works in this exhibition are presented against the spectacular waterfront view of the Manhattan skyline.

Emerging Artist Fellows are selected annually through an open application process and reviewed by a committee comprised of past EAF recipients; established artists who have shown a commitment to mentoring and advocating for younger artists; as well a writers, gallerists, and curators who have special knowledge of contemporary art. The 2010 Advisory Committee members were: Phong Bui, artist, writer, independent curator, and Founder, Brooklyn Rail; Adriana Farmiga, 2008 EAF recipient; and Janine Foeller, Founder/Co-
Director, Wallspace Gallery, Chelsea, NY.

Socrates Sculpture Park is open 365 days a year from 10am to sunset and is located at the intersection of Broadway and Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City. By Subway take the N or Q train to Broadway (Queens), walk 8 blocks west on Broadway to the intersection of Vernon
