Dusk Dances is an outdoor dance festival that brings an array of high quality contemporary and traditional dance to public parks. As dusk descends, a theatrical host ushers the audience - which invariably includes children, dog walkers and local residents - to five eclectic dance pieces that unfold in different areas of the park. Audiences are invited on a pay-what-you-can basis to an innovative site-specific festival, which is not only an artistic event, but a social and cultural one as well.

With performances from award-winning ‘percussion posse’ Samba Squad, and hosted by Madame Beaucoup (Lisa Anne Ross), our production at Withrow Park features:

Montréal choreographer Marc Boivin, with a new piece featuring a trio of Kates--Kate Alton, Kate Franklin and Kate Holden (firstthingsfirst productions)—which explores perspectives of truth in nature and art.

Montréal flamenco company La Otra Orilla, with a fiery and passionate work for one dancer, one singer, and one percussionist.

Toronto's Zhenya Cerneacov, Mairead Filgate, and Brodie Stevenson, who will combine their flair for acrobatics and contact improvisation in a new highly physical trio investigating how to coexist on One Couch.

Toronto’s Black Ice Step Team, fresh from 4 competition wins in Calgary and the US will take African stepping to the outdoor stage.
Sylvie Bouchard, with an ensemble work titled La gigue en souvenirs, which displays a contemporary homage to Québec’s heritage.

Please note that Dusk Dances will hold all performances as planned, despite the current Toronto civic strike.

Dusk Dances runs from August 4th through August 9th. Performances begin nightly at 7:00 PM.
