In this rare U.S. appearance, the duo of soprano Tiziana Scandaletti and pianist-composer Riccardo Piacentini incorporate gestural sonic elements and visuals with their beautifully executed, witty performance. Among the most inventive interpreters of contemporary Italian repertoire for voice and piano, the duo presents Carlo Alessandro Landini’s subtle Mothers of Hope; Luca Lombardi’s dramatic Ophelia-Fragmente; Ada Gentile’s vivid sketch, La giornata di Betty Boop; and excerpts from Ennio Morricone’s surprising Epitaffi sparsi; along with a pair of John Cage songs—the classic Wonderful Widow of Eighteen Springs and A Flower. Piacentini adds his own compositions Rataplànplanplan and Jazz motetus Vi (Cricket play), as well as what he calls “foto-suoni” (sound-pictures).
