San Francisco Performances presents pianist Dubravka Tomsic, whose inspiring interpretations of great repertoire have kept her at "something of a cult status among pianophiles" (Gramophone), 8 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at Herbst Theatre.

This program showcases her sensitive, passionate interpretations of Romantic works, including Beethoven's tender sonata, No. 26 in E-flat Major, "Les adieux," and Chopin's dramatic, sometimes waltzing, Four Ballades, which inspired Liszt, Grieg, Faure and Brahms in their own composing. She will also play Beethoven's Piano Sonata in D minor, "The Tempest."

Tomsic, who emerged on the music scene at age 5, has performed more than 4,000 times and recorded more than 80 CDs. Gramophone Magazine describes her as having "something of a cult status among pianophiles." Hailing from Slovenia, she teaches at Ljubljiana University's Academy of Music while maintaining an intensive touring schedule.

Her recital here is an extension of her rich history with SF Performances, starting in 1995.
