French Journalist Christian Chesnot, who was held hostage in Iraq in 2004, will discuss how journalists in war zones can balance the needs for safety and information. On a broader scale, he will talk about the challenges to the profession of journalism in Europe. Just as in America, the news media in Europe are suffering from declining audiences, decreasing ad revenue and competition from the Internet. Mr. Chesnot will address these dual dangers of journalism and respond to questions in English, based on his personal experience on Friday, May 15 at 6pm. A wine and cheese reception will follow Mr. Chesnot’s remarks.

Christian Chesnot is a journalist for Radio France Internationale and a graduate of the Centre de Formation des Journalistes in Paris, and has worked as a correspondent in Egypt for Le Progrès égyptien and several French newspapers.
