Drop-in Art Making October 1, 2010

Every Sunday from 1-3 PM, families can experience a new adventure in art making free with admission to the Contemporary Jewish Museum. As always, the hands-on fun inspires children to learn more about the exhibits on display in the galleries, architecture or holidays and traditions.

October 3, 2010: Create-a-Creature
Artist Maira Kalman has a gift for drawing eclectic creatures. Be inspired, and design your own eccentric characters (with mismatched head, torso, legs and feet) and write a poem to describe your creation. Presented in conjunction with the Museum’s current exhibition Maira Kalman: Various Illuminations (of a Crazy World).

October 17, 2010: Draw a Dog Self-Portrait
Create self-portraits inspired by an animal friend of your choosing, just like artist Maira Kalman did for the cover of The New Yorker. Presented in conjunction with the Museum’s current exhibition Maira Kalman: Various Illuminations (of a Crazy World).

October 24, 2010: Draw a Dog Self-Portrait

October 31, 2010: All Dressed Up
Using felt, fabric, buttons, beads and thread, create colorful costumes, disguises and accessories.
