Heschel-King Commemorative Lecture

The Social Action Committee of Congregation B'nai Brith, at 201
Central Street in Somerville will be sponsoring a Reverend Martin
Luther King/ Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel Commemorative Lecture on
Sunday, January 21st, from 9:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Stephen Schnapp,
senior educator with United for a Fair Economy will be speaking on
"Closing the Racial Wealth Divide."
Our program commemorates the visionary leadership of the Reverend Dr.
Martin Luther King and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, who spoke out for
civil rights and equality and for honoring diversity. Admission is
free.
In spite of the gains in equality won by the Civil Rights movement,
most families of color are five times poorer than white families.
UFE's workshop shows how the gap in wealth, not just in income, is the
key. It debunks myths of equal opportunities for wealth creation, and
explores the history of how government policies have fostered and
aggravated racial economic equality.
