Downtown’s Historic Landmark, The Belasco Theater Celebrates Grand Opening This Saturday, March 19, 2011 With A Performance By Deadmau5 Unhooked March 19, 2011

The historic Belasco Theater, one of Downtown Los Angeles’ most venerable landmarks, is ready to make history once again with its official grand opening on Saturday, March 19, 2011, featuring a performance by dance music phenomenon DEADMAU5 UNHOOKED. Tickets are $100 or $200 for VIP (hosted bar) and available at www.groovetickets.com. Doors open at 9:00 PM. Belasco Theater is located at 1050 South Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015. This is a 21+ event.

Joel Zimmerman doesn’t like being called a DJ. The 28-year-old dance music phenomenon from Toronto, better known as deadmau5, rolls his eyes at the description, which he sees as a hopelessly outdated way of describing what he does. His sets are closer to live performances. He plays mostly his own material, assembling tracks on the fly, using cutting edge computer technology, including software he’s helped write himself. “There are no CDs involved,” he explains. “It’s a technological orgy up there and I try and keep it more my music than anyone else’s.
