The Ontario College of Art & Design invites all members of the public for a self-guided tour of the campus including the Sharp Centre for Design, during Doors Open Toronto on Saturday, May 27, from 10 am to 4 pm.

Will Alsop's radical design for the Sharp Centre for Design was completed during the fall of 2004. Designed in collaboration with Toronto-based architects Robbie/Young + Wright, the spectacular new building is a unique "table top" structure that has quickly become one of the most exciting architectural landmarks in Toronto. The building stands 26 metres above the ground on 12 multi-coloured legs, and provides two storeys of studio and teaching space.

Open studios include encaustic painting, printmaking, fibre, jewellery, and ceramics. Visitors can peruse six different Exhibits featuring photography, integrated media, work from the 2006 medal winners, and a collection that explores architecture and movement. Clay and Paper Theatre will be offering visitors an introduction to their ?larger-than-life? puppets in Butterfield Park.

OCAD will be presenting The Soft City - a family-friendly experience facilitated by the Upper Parkdale Benevolent Arts Guild - a group of educators and artists whose work focuses on the creative side of city planning. Kids of all ages become designers and architects, crafting a magical, miniature city from plush fabrics at this hands-on event (11- 3:30 pm).

The Ontario College of Art & Design is located at 100 McCaul Street, just South of Dundas in Toronto. Admission is free. Last entry at 3:30.
