Kevin Wheatcroft throws open the doors on his unique Military Vehicle Collection to current or ex service personnel in celebration of the 2013 Armed Forces Day

Donington Park and The Wheatcroft Collection will pay tribute to the men and women who are taking part in the annual nationwide 2013 Armed Forces Day, which this year is to be centred on Nottingham.

Over the weekend of the 29th and 30th June the Donington Grand Prix Collection, which also includes many outstanding examples of the wider Wheatcroft Military Collection, will throw its doors open to current or ex- service personnel, offering free day passes on both days, to all who can provide appropriate proof of status - a valid MOD90 or Veterans Badge/ID.

On top of the stunning wall-to-wall display of priceless racing cars, over 100 military vehicles including tanks, motorcycles and armoured personnel carriers - all in original and working condition - will be accessible and on show in the Museum’s Hall One. This remarkable display is just part of one of the world's largest collections of military vehicles built up by Kevin Wheatcroft over the past thirty years.

Kevin Wheatcroft said: “I’m delighted to be able to make this offer to our servicemen and women on such an important national celebration weekend. Our Collection here has been 30 plus years in the making, and we rarely get a chance to show it to so many people who will really be able to get close to the exhibits and appreciate the detail – you never know, some people might be reunited with significant vehicles that were part of their past!”

The free access for service personnel is not only a saving of £10 each for eligible visitors, it is also a fantastic opportunity to appreciate some beautiful and rare machinery from both parts of the Wheatcroft interests - the military world as well as that of Grand Prix motor racing, with the world’s largest collection of F1 racing cars.

The Museum is located at the Donington Park Race Circuit, off Junction 23A of the M1, and 1.5 kms west of the East Midlands Airport on the A453.
