Neuroscientists, musicians and experts in speech will give you a guided tour of a ‘Bionic Ear’, show you a 'listening' brain in action and offer an opportunity to ‘test’ your own brain, as you try to decipher a variety of auditory illusions!
Deafness Research UK has teamed up with the British Library, UCL Neuroscience and the UCL Ear Institute to host an interactive event aimed at all ages, exploring how the brain perceives sound and interprets speech and music.
Tickets are £6 (£4 concessions), book on the British Library’s website at http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase?agency=AGENCY_NAME&organ_val=org_id&pid=6856922
Tobin May, our Bionic Ear Show presenter will be showing how the ear works and one of our funded researchers, Dr Ifat Yasin, will be looking at how the brain then processes sound. A feast of auditory illusions will demonstrate that hearing is not always what you think it is.
There will also be a host of interative exhibits on display, from looking at the brain in action-live show and brain trickery to how you hear your own voice and what we can learn from hearing like an owl!
