Exhibit Sept 4 - Oct 26, 2012; Artist reception Sat, Sept 15, 6-8pm

Market Street Gallery is very ecstatic to announce Dissected Library; a solo exhibition by Elizabeth Ashcroft, a transformative collection of sculptural mix-media pieces with illustrates modern day ideas using physical elements of yesterday. The exhibit will open September 4, 2012, and run through October 26, 2012. The artist reception will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012, from 6 PM - 8 PM.

In her own words; artist statement by Elizabeth Ashcroft:

"I have become completely enamored of the book.... the literal board-paper-ink-word essence of it as a mixed media platform to explore the boundaries of expression and intuition. Cutting into the first few books was difficult and I have had to grow accustomed to forever altering one art form in order to create another.

The books carry a weight and depth both physical and emotional - an inherent history that adds a certain warmth and familiarity - and that effects their eventual transformation. Not unlike a narrative, my creative process is rather circuitous, akin to following a path of "idea" breadcrumbs that stretches out both before and behind me; the journey being as important as the destination. In this altered book series, I aspire to achieve a balanced merging of intention and discovery on order to create work that feels authentic, genuine and personal."
