DISPATCHER WELLNESS

Stress: We all feel it at one time or another. Many of us deal with stress every single day. Jobs that require employees to hide their true feelings and emotions are considered to be some of the most stressful. This is especially true for the public safety dispatcher who sits at the hub of operations for the law enforcement and fire agencies they work for.
The information provided in this course includes:

Recognizing the signs and symptoms of dispatcher stress

Techniques for managing stress from both the workplace and personal lives

Developing healthycoping skills

Learning how stressors fromwork and personal livesaffecteach other

Learning ways to help one another with management of both acute and chronic dispatcher stress

Physical health management principles

The role of nutrition and exercise and their relationship to stress management

Available resources that can be utilized for stress management

The San Diego Association of Public Safety Dispatchers (APSD) develops and presents training courses for public safety dispatchers.

Classes presented by APSD are certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training and meet the continuing professional training requirements for California public safety dispatchers.

APSD works in conjunction with existing law enforcement, fire/EMS associations and resources to bring the needs and concerns specific to communications to the forefront. APSD is an independent, non-profit association made up of fire and law enforcement communications center managers, supervisors, phone and radio dispatchers in San Diego County.
