DishiBem Traditional Contemporary Dance Group presents two evenings of compelling, thought provoking and revolutionary performing art. Art that is presented with a no holds barred display of society and culture as seen and experienced by affected youth that will not be silent. Kwame Opare founded DishiBem to honor two fallen artists who were childhood friends and instrumental in his development as an artist. Opare previously worked with Kankouran West African Dance Company and toured with the Broadway show STOMP. Co-Director Diedre N. Dawkins is a Bessie Award winning dancer that has performed extensively throughout the world with Muntu Chicago Dance Theater, Urban Bush Women, Deeply Rooted and Jubilation Dance Theater and Ronald K. Brown Evidence Dance Company. The mission of DishiBem is to create works of artistic expression that rage against the norm and consistently ask the question; why not? Co-presented by The Adinkra Group.
