4th Screening of 7 of our summer of murderous fun.
Tonight we feature 2 fine directors that you don't normally think of as mystery directors-Busby Berkeley-better known for his early 30s wild, extravagent chorography of hundreds of dancing girls and Hal Roach who is best remembered for his work with Laurel and Hardy.
LADY'S MEN
Fast and Furious 1939 dir. Busby Berkeley with Franchot Tone, Ann Sothern
A husband and wife team of rare-book sellers in the same vein as Nick and Nora. Will Tone be able to keep his eyes off the beauty contestants long enough to solve a murder or will his wife murder him! This is the last of the series of 3 MGM mysteries molded after the Thin Man
The Housekeeper's Daughter 1939 dir. Hal Roach with Joan Bennett, Adolphe Menjou
