HEEB MAGAZINE BRINGS DIAMOND DAYS TO OAKLAND

– Heeb transports popular Brooklyn music fest to Oakland, the Brooklyn of the West –

Following a successful Brooklyn debut last year that won raves on Pitchfork, Heeb Magazine’s annual Diamond Days festival moves to Oakland this year, the Brooklyn of the West.

Diamond Days is the brain child of Heeb contributing editor Jay Diamond, who spent his formative years in the burbs of Chicago putting together underground rock shows with friends. Inspired by those shows, Diamond Days’ annual line-up consists of multiple genres of music, all made by artists who are pushing creative boundaries in some form or another.

Running from July 17-20, Diamond Days will showcase a variety of indie acts ranging from psychedelic rock to garage punk to unplugged folk and bounce between Mama Buzz Café and the Ghost Town Gallery. Each night will include up to ten performances from local bands (Bridez, Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound, No Bunny, Greg Ashley, Lazarus, Glitter Wizard and more), plus imports from SoCal (Thee Make Out Party, Ruthann Friedman, the Chapin Sisters, Tweak Birds and more), Seattle (Tiny Vipers, Whalebones, I’m a Gun, Loving Thunder and more), Chicago (Aleks and the Drummer), Brooklyn (Cult of Youth) and London (Ellen Mary McGee).

Proceeds from Diamond Days will be donated to the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, (www.ellabakercenter.org), an Oakland-based "solutions center" that works to promote incarceration alternatives for young people, bring about peace in the community, and create pathways out of poverty within the emerging green economy.

As part of the festival Heeb will also be challenging the food fanatics at Chow (www.chow.com) to a pork cook-off. If your vision of a Jewish summer fest includes klezmer music and grilled kosher dogs, keep walking and head straight for the local JCC.
