Diaghilev’s World
Marian Burleigh-Motley is an art historian.

The year 2009 marks the centenary of Sergei Diaghilev’s pathbreaking first Paris season of Russian ballet, with spectacular sets and costume designs commissioned from Russian artists. Later, Diaghilev persuaded some of the most important European avant-garde artists, including Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, to provide provocative set designs for seasons of ballet in New York, South America, and cities throughout Europe.
