The Dexter Community Band invites the public to come in from the cold and enjoy a FREE concert, Music From Across The Sea, Sunday, February 27 at 3:00 p.m. in the Dexter Center for the Performing Arts located in Dexter High School. The school is located at 2200 North Parker Road outside the village of Dexter.

Music from Across the Sea features music from many cultures. Children's March, written by Percy Aldridge Grainger, is a delight to adults and children. Grainger compiled local folk tunes of 19th century England into compositions for bands, orchestras and choral groups. Norman Dello Joio’s Scenes from the Louvre is a well known work for band. Horn Concerto fur 4 Horner und Blasorchester, by German composer Heinrich Hubler, features Dexter Community Band's entire French Horn section. John Philip Sousa's Hands Across the Sea is a rousing, hand clapping march. Variations on a Korean Folk Song by John Barnes Chance features all sections of the band. Fantasy on Madama Butterfly is a new work acquired by the band, arranged by Yo Goto from melodies from Giacomo Puccini's Opera Madam Butterfly. The Sunday concert will conclude with a recently published work by Shin'ya Takahashi, Jalan-Jalan, Vision of the Isle of the Gods, which presents many interesting rhythms and melodic themes.

All Dexter Community Band Concerts are free and open to the public. Handicapped parking and access is available.
