Destiny Arts Move-a-Thon Benefit January 23, 2010

An all-day Move-A-Thon will raise funds and raise the roof for Destiny Arts Center's internationally acclaimed youth arts and violence prevention programs in Oakland, Artistic Director Sarah Crowell has announced (www.destinyarts.org). Dozens of dance and martial arts teachers, popular DJs and community celebrities will lead classes from hip-hop and modern dance to karate, hula and more. The Destiny Move-A-Thon, scheduled Saturday, January 23, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Destiny Arts Center, 100 42nd Street Oakland, will consist of two parts: from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Destiny Arts youth participants sponsored by the community will raise funds; from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. the community is invited to participate in mini-classes for a sliding scale donation of $15-$100. Concurrent with the classes will be a celebratory free-style DJ'd dance party beginning at 1 p.m. All proceeds benefit Destiny Arts Center's programs and facility and pre-registration is available online at brown paper tickets- brownpapertickets.com beginning January 5.

Artistic Director Sarah Crowell says, "We invite the community to join us in our studios for a day of movement and fun and a taste of what the Destiny experience is all about in transforming lives through the performing and martial arts."
