Designing Change

Our next Innovator public event featuring Marcia Lausen is scheduled for Tuesday February 21, 2006.

Bio/Abstract
With talk of the MFA becoming the new MBA and publications such as Business Week touting the power of design, how can leaders who are not designers, harness the power of design to bring about change? Marcia Lausen will use visual case studies to demonstrate how design is an integral part of change ?- as catalyst and co-conspirator -? and how you can begin to think like a designer or at the very least learn to work with them.

Marcia Lausen is founder of the Chicago office of Studio/lab and Director of the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

Studio/lab is an interdisciplinary studio that provides identity, information, and experience design consulting services to incite business and social change. At UIC, Marcia provides visionary and administrative leadership for BFA and MFA programs in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Electronic Visualization, Moving Image, Photography, and Studio Arts. As a Professor in the Graphic Design department Marcia also teaches graduate and undergraduate students preparing for professional careers in design education, research, and practice.

Marcia is an outspoken advocate for the value of design in corporate, consumer, and government communications. She serves on the national board of AIGA and initiated the election design program of Design for Democracy: a nonprofit organization which seeks to improve the quality and clarity of government communications. Marcia received her MFA in graphic design from Yale University in 1985. She was named a Fast Company Master of Design in 2004.
