The Dennis Angel Band plays The Iridium Friday, March 12 after the Eddie Palmieri/Brian Lynch Quartet. The midnight performance is part of the New Faces Midnight Series. While Dennis Angel is not technically a new face, this will be the first time his band plays at the jazz club. The band's The Wall Street Recession Time Blues aired on various radio stations across the country this past summer. Boston radio played it so much, that the Boston Herald profiled the band. Just before Thanksgiving, the 2nd largest non-commercial radio station in the country, WXPN in Philadelphia, played the song in between Rosanne Cash and Lyle Lovett.

“The idea for “The Wall Street Recession Time Blues” came to me when I finally got enough courage to open my retirement statement this past winter,” says trumpeter/bandleader Dennis Angel, who is a respected TV/film copyright attorney (named one of America’s Best Lawyers in 2006, along with David Boies and Alan Dershowitz).
Another Angel song, “Add Another Tax,” caught the attention of Westchester’s RNN TV and they aired the band’s Pelham Manor performance on “Real Politics Live” during election season.

The band has been playing to full houses throughout Westchester County. The members include David Shaich on bass, who plays regularly at The Cotton Club; Joel Mofsenson on piano, who played in Broadway shows such as “I Love My Wife,” “Dreamgirls,” and “Cats”; Mike Campenni on drums, has played with Gil Coggins, Ted Curson, and Gordon Edwards; Gottfried Stoger on sax/flute, has played with Joe Zawinul and Toots Thielemans; and DeForest Raphael has sung in many jazz clubs and festivals around the country. Recently, they traveled to Beverly Hills to play a gala fundraising event for the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation. Dennis and his wife, Linda were co-founders of CBTF in 1988; their daughter Ilana died from a brain tumor the following year.
