Women & Their Work proudly presents Things I Never Told You, a solo photography exhibition by Austin based artist, Denise Prince Martin. If a picture is worth a thousand words, Prince Martin’s series of women is a veritable library. Each image has the same structure, a woman in an environment holding an object. Within this framework, Prince Martin orchestrates lush narratives that hinge on the playful and absurd. These women represent more than themselves; they each tell a tale that explores the complexity of women’s lives and their portrayal in popular culture.

Named one of the Top Seven Individual Artists of 2004 by the Austin Chronicle, Prince Martin is a multi-disciplinary artist with notable accomplishments in painting, filmmaking and photography. Recently awarded a residency at the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Prince Martin spent fourteen years living and working in Los Angeles and New York, where she studied fine art, critical theory and film at Cal Arts and New York’s School of Visual Arts. During this time she exhibited paintings and installations, shot editorial assignments and completed a feature film that was produced by Cary Woods.
