Canadian author Denise Chong discusses and signs her new book, Egg on Mao, an account of the life and fate of a small-town bus mechanic from Mao's home province. The best-selling author of The Concubine's Children, Chong tells a story that pivots on the young man's defiant act during the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests--for which he was labelled a counter-revolutionary--when he threw paint-filled eggs at the iconic portrait of Chairman Mao. A story that reads like Shakespearean drama, peppered with defiance, love and betrayal.
