2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd.
Los Angeles, California 90049

In the 1960s, La Cienega Boulevard was the center of Los Angeles’s burgeoning art scene. Since that time, our gallery districts have increased in number and have periodically changed locations. The popular districts of ten years ago have been supplanted by new hot spots—Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, Culver City, Mid-Wilshire/La Brea, Beverly Hills/West Hollywood, and Chinatown. In this class, participants will visit several gallery districts where they will have an opportunity to see both cutting edge and traditional art, hear from gallery directors regarding their particular aesthetic interests, and, when possible, meet local artists whose works are on view. Driving directions and parking instructions will be provided upon registration. Carpooling is encouraged.

Instructor: Dr. Barbara Gilbert, Senior Curator Emerita of Fine Arts at the Skirball Cultural Center, has organized major exhibitions on artists Max Liebermann, Henry Mosler, Larry Rivers, and George Segal. Gilbert has a doctorate in art history from USC, is frequently invited to judge art exhibitions, and has well-established relationships with scores of gallery owners and artists.
