Born in Paris, France in 1966, Delphine Perlstein is a self-taught painter with a background in drawing and dance. She began exhibiting her work in Boston and L.A in 2001. She has also had exhibits in Paris in Galerie W and Galerie Art 9, and has participated in many group art shows in and around Paris (Montrouge 2004, Vitry 2005, and Mac 2005). Drawing inspiration from everyday experiences and thoughts, Perlstein produces expressive, colourful pieces on glass and canvas. Her paintings reflect sincerity with regards to her subject matter while simultaneously being dreamlike and surreal in appearance. Perlstein works intuitively on her paintings, embracing and utilizing accidents as a part of her process. In her desire to keep her work “painterly”, Perlstein focuses on the physicality of her materials and their behaviour towards one another. She speaks of her experience making artwork as "Being available to what can happen, letting it happen, and then validating what has happened."
