Software System Safety is generally defined as the efforts to optimise system safety within system engineering lifecycles and its integration into existing operational environment. The importance of software system safety is indisputable with increasing redesign and development of military systems.

Despite the efforts to prevent software failures, militaries still face systems breakdown due to software upgrades, despite pre-testing of the software. These problems are likely to occur due to poor integration of software modules, resulting in failure in systems performance.

In view of this, most militaries develop software safety frameworks, to allow systematic approach to conduct software design, development, testing and integration efforts. Whilst drafting out the processes, engineers have to bear in mind the importance of software requirements and specifications analysis to ensure timely delivery of desired capabilities.

Software System Safety as part of Defence Summit Asia 2011 aims to address the complexity and challenges that engineers have in ensure software safety in military context. Discussion includes software requirement analysis, architectural design, software traceability matrix, coding analysis, hazard analysis among other important modules. Trainer will be sharing on real-world case studies on software safety wins and losses.
