Williams, who set practically every University of Memphis rushing record in his remarkable four-year career, will launch the DeAngelo Williams Foundation Friday night at Senses on Poplar. The public is invited beginning at 10 p.m. and the $5 admission will benefit the foundation.
The foundation will raise money and awareness in hopes of finding a cure for breast cancer. The foundation also will be involved in reading programs for Mid-South area children.
''It means a lot to be able to do this,'' Williams said. ''It's a small way for me to give back to the community.''
For Williams, breast cancer is a subject with which he is too familiar. The disease took the lives of two of his aunts. His mother, Sandra Hill of Wynne, Ark., is a breast-cancer survivor.
He said if his foundation can provide any assistance in finding a cure for breast cancer, it will be welcome because ''you can never replace lives.''
