Riffing wildly on the tried-and-true trope of a lovely young girl with dreams of the big city, Debbie Does Dallas — based on the original cult-classic porno — repurposes the story of an innocent cheerleader who will do anything to become a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. Created in 2001 for the New York Fringe Festival, the resulting full-scale musical has a Technicolor gloss to its visuals and a Broadway-belting score. Rockin', rollin', wide-eyed romps, Debby's raunchy tunes take the singsonginess of Grease or Hairspray way over the line. Sorry kids, there's no actual nudity or sex — but, boy oh boy, do they talk about it. (LMK)
