Woodridge, Francis A. Gregory, Chevy Chase, and Capitol View Branches
Washington, D.C., District of Columbia

With the help of volunteers from around the city, the District of Columbia Public Library plans to ?Fix It Up? at targeted neighborhood libraries. Volunteers will descend on Capitol View, Chevy Chase, Francis A. Gregory and Woodridge Neighborhood Libraries on Saturday, April 22, 2006, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. to help make these branches shine. The four branches will be closed on Saturday in order to accommodate the project and make room for volunteers, tools and equipment. The ?Fix It Up? effort is a collaborative between the Library, DCPL Foundation and Federation of Friends of the Library to improve the aesthetic of the four branches.

Volunteer activities will focus on a range of tasks both in and out of the buildings. They will include painting, washing windows, clearing debris, removing graffiti, trimming hedges, pulling weeds, spreading topsoil and mulch, planting flowers and more.

The Library, through its Friends groups and D.C. CARES, will be recruiting volunteers for this effort. Families and groups are encouraged to participate either as part of their National Youth Service Day or Earth Day observances. The Library and its donors will furnish all tools and supplies. The library locations are as follows:

Capitol View -- 5001 Central Avenue, S.E.
Chevy Chase -- 5625 Connecticut Avenue, N.W.
Francis A. Gregory -- 3600 Alabama Avenue, S.E.
Woodridge -- 1801 Hamlin Street, N.E.

(The four branches will close on April 22 and re-open to the public Sunday, April 23 for a special celebration to show off the changes)

To celebrate the improvements of the ?Fix It Up? volunteer effort, the Library will open the four branches for a special cake and punch reception on Sunday, April 23 from 1 ? 4 p.m. All neighbors and Friends of the branches are invited to come by to see the changes or to check out books and materials.

Those who are unable to help on April 22 but would like to be included in a future ?Fix It Up? volunteer day at the D.C. Public Library should contact Bill Turner so they can be advised as other projects are planned.
