German-born artist David Stern captures life's intensity on canvas, dealing mainly with urban themes, working to convey authentic energies in his paintings. His subjects include single and multiple figures working through their pain, their friendships, and their crises. Stern’s work is currently on view at the Yeshiva University Museum, 15 West 16th Street, through February 8, 2009. On Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 3 PM Karen Wilkin, New York–based art critic and curator of the David Stern traveling exhibition will lead a tour and gallery talk. Wilkin will discuss Stern’s encounters with an urban place defined by energy, crowding, speed, and cosmopolitanism, freely reconstituted through his exploration of the physical qualities of paint.
