David Ortiz to Host Celebrity Mixer to Benefit Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston on July 29, 2006

Tickets for Event at Rumor on Sale Now

David Ortiz, major league baseball player and designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox, will host a Celebrity Mixer and Fundraiser in Boston on Saturday, July 29, 2006. Funds raised from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Boston and Plaza de la Salud Hospital de Ninos, a children’s hospital in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The Celebrity Mixer will be held Rumor Nightclub on Warrenton Street in Boston. Doors for the event will open at 8:00 p.m. with the bartending competition to begin at 9pm. The first 100 people through the door will receive a special prize from David Ortiz. The event will feature a celebrity bartending competition with David Ortiz, his teammates and friends competing for tips, all of which will be donated to the charities. In addition to the celebrity bartending event, a silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind memorabilia from David Ortiz and the Boston Red Sox and other unique items will take place onsite at Rumors. Funds raised through the auction will support both the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston and Plaza de la Salud Hospital de Ninos. A raffle onsite will also help to raise funds for the organizations.

An MVP Reception will be held at Rumors prior to the Celebrity Mixer beginning at 7:00 p.m. The event is open to sponsors and friends of the participants. However, two tickets for this event will be auctioned off through Ticketmaster along with an autographed photo with winner and David and, 2 VIP gifts. The fundraiser will cap off two days of community activities which include two baseball “Power Hitting” clinics for local youth on July 27 and 28 at Extra Innings in West Bridgewater. Presented by Papa Gino’s & D’Angelo Sandwich Shops, these clinics are designed for those young baseball players who want to learn how to hit like a pro.
