Whether performing under his own name or with his band, Street to Nowhere, Dave Smallen’s songwriting has earned him recognition from his hometown of Oakland to all across the United States. His songs are often dark but hopeful, lyrically heavy but light in melody and structure. His live delivery is intimate and honest, with a voice that one moment will hover just above a whisper and then suddenly wake the neighborhood.

At the age of 21, Smallen found himself in a tug-a-war between major and indie labels resulting in a contract with Capitol Records and national tours with The Format, Rocky Votolato, Matt Pond PA, The New Amsterdams, and Kevin Devine plus invitations to perform at the Austin City Limits, Treasure Island, Noise Pop, SXSW, and CMJ music festivals. He’s found himself collaborating within the studio walls with producers Matt Radosevich (Dredge, The Hives, Taking Back Sunday) and Mark Weinberg (Matt Nathanson, Gratitude), as well as with members of Death Cab For Cutie, Judgement Day, The Matches, and Audrye Sessions. His latest album, self-released under his own name, is called Everything Changes and Nothing Changes.
