SUITE 884

LAUNCH PARTY & DARIEN BROCKINGTON PERFORMANCE

Monday, October 19th, 2009 @ 8:00PM ET
Open the Suite to your Soul.
The launch of Suite 884 begins on Monday, October 19th 2009. Assisting with the launch is Foreign Exchange & Little Brother's own Darien Brockington, Toronto's hottest house band Ear Chocolate & Toronto's best R&B/Soul talent.

When an artist paints a masterpiece, when a dancer leaps higher than imagined or when a writer pens lyrics to a song which becomes the soundtrack to your fondest memories, have you ever questioned where they find their source of creativity?

Founder, Nate London, a musician and entrepreneur, wanted to create an environment where music was as spontaneous and unbridled as the kind of passion released when an artist finds their muse. Pulling from his childhood, a time when things were simple and uncomplicated, a time when living, loving and discovering were the only responsibilities. It was time before life intervened, before the year his parents divorced or when he experienced death in the family or before he became well acquainted with Detroit as his second dwelling, his childhood home was his safe place and wore the numbers '884'.

Now, 884 has transformed into a hub for Soul and R&B in its purest and most organic form - live. Choosing the idea for a suite was easy, because patrons ought to feel catered to as if they were in a posh hotel but still feel the warmth of being at home. Simply put, Suite 884 is a place for patrons to see well-known and emerging recording artists in an intimate performance setting.
Similar to Philly's late Black Lilly, Suite 884 is comprised of a few beautiful elements. The first is Ear chocolate, the house band for the series; individually, members of this band have played for Glenn Lewis, Kim Burrell, Colin Munroe, Kim Davis, and many more artists. Collectively, they've made noise in the city of Toronto for being a force to be reckoned with and a standard for others musicians to reach.
The second is the "No Tracks" rule; this rule applies to all artists performing. It must be live with the band and add to the atmosphere. Artists performing with tracks or lip-synching is strongly prohibited goes against what Suite 884 patrons are used to. The only exception for tracks to be played is by DJ Corey Dawkins who spins some of the most underground Soul and R&B tracks in between sets in addition to before and after the show.
The Third is Suite 884's new home inside Toronto's Revival Bar and Lounge. Soul music has always had that gospel feel and derives from a very honest place, so when searching for a permanent residence to house the series, this venue was perfect. Formerly a Baptist church, Revival has housed many events and played host to many musicians and celebrities alike. The College Street venue is continuously evolving and has opened its doors to music series that is doing the same.
The fourth and most important element is the people. Suite 884 guests are second-to-none. They are music lovers, energetic, chic and large supporters. Every time there is an artist performing in the suite, our guests show up, show love, and add to a memorable evening. It's a community of musicians, artists, and music lovers that make Suite 884 a beautiful place. We invite you to be our guests and enjoy your stay.
