Dr. Carl Smith speaks on "The Plan of Chicago: Daniel Burnham and the Remaking of the American City " at the Evanston Public Library on Thursday, May 8, at 7 p.m. This illustrated talk will discuss the creation, content, and significance of Daniel Burnham and Edward Bennett's highly influential Plan of Chicago (1909), which proposed many of the current city's most distinctive features, established the concept of city planning in the United States, and encouraged the re-conceptualization of urban life itself.
