Daniel Burkholder / The PlayGround combines the formalism of choreography with the immediacy of improvisation. Director Daniel Burkholder “relishes the unknown and he encourages his colleagues to push themselves to the edge and beyond” (Washington Post). He presents my ocean is never blue, an original work of dance and music that explores the mythological, personal, societal and political aspects of water. A presence in every great mythology, water often symbolizes rebirth or renewal. In our personal life, water is necessary for survival; able to bring a sense of either serenity or fear. Former World Bank president Ismail Seregeldin stated that “the wars of the next century will be fought over water.” Choreographed and directed by Daniel Burkholder with original music by Jonathan Morris, the four dancers and two musicians will develop, create and solidify this material together during the rehearsal process. An artist co-presentation.
