Dancing at Dusk: Samba do Rio (Brazil) August 10, 2011

Come to Caramoor for an evening of fun with the kids! Experience the music and dance of Brazil with Grupo Ribeiro. Bring a picnic, spread out a blanket, and enjoy great music together. Children of all ages will have the opportunity to dance to live music, interact with the musicians, get to know their instruments, and ask questions. This is a wonderful way to have your child introduced, up close, to music in a relaxed and joyful way. Activities will be designed for toddlers as well as pre-teens.

Grupo Ribeiro is a performing arts company lead by Dancer/Choreographer Quenia Ribeiro. This Dancing at Dusk will feature Samba; one the most internationally recognized music and dance forms from Brazil! A patchwork of many cultural elements pieced together from Africa, Europe and the Indigenous people of Brazil and developed in the black neighborhoods of Rio by Brazilians of African descent, Samba spread to all levels of Brazilian society and represents many aspects of the Brazilian cultural identity. Prepare for a high-energy night of festivities that will have you celebrating like they do in Rio de Janiero!
